Good Character

All right! Let’s get back to the writing workshops.

Now that we are all speaking the same language when it comes to story structure, let’s talk a little about another huge part of the writing process:

CHARACTER

CHARACTER, like narrative, has certain basics, which can be broken down for discussion. As I see it, (and remember this is all just one man’s approach to the problem), there are EIGHT basic elements that make up any character.

SEX 
EMOTION 
INTELLIGENCE 
STATUS 
PHILOSOPHY 
MORALITY 
PHYSICAL BEING 
HISTORY 

SEX 
The first one is pretty obvious. Your sex affects who you are. If you are a woman, you are going to see the world in a somewhat different way than if you are a man. There are those who would have it that men and women think basically alike, but I am not of that school. I believe men and women, thoughsimilar in some areas, are vastly different in others.
